At a networking session organized by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai, with the support of the Department of Commerce Sri Lanka, the Hon. Mr. Wasantha Samarasinghe met with Ambassador Mrs. Arousha Cooray, Consul General Mr. Alexi Gunasekara, members representing SLITPA UAE, other Sri Lankan professional associations, the Pakistan Business Council, Indian Trade team and leading importers and distributors from the UAE.

The discussions focused on promoting Sri Lankan exports to the UAE market and diversifying Sri Lanka’s export product portfolio. During the meeting, the Hon. Minister invited participants to organize a business delegation to Sri Lanka Expo 2026, scheduled for June 2026, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to facilitating increased exports of Sri Lankan products to the UAE.

The Sri Lanka IT Professionals Association (SLITPA–UAE) successfully concluded its year end Executive Committee meeting of the year on Saturday, 14th December 2025, at Al Raya Hotel Apartments, Dubai.

This meeting marked an important milestone as we reflected on a year filled with impactful initiatives, professional collaboration, community support, and meaningful engagement for Sri Lankan IT professionals in the UAE. The Executive Committee reviewed the accomplishments of 2025, acknowledged collective efforts, and aligned on strategies and plans for the year ahead.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all Executive Committee members for their dedication, commitment, and active participation throughout the year. Your leadership and teamwork have been instrumental in driving SLITPA’s vision forward.

Dubai, UAE — [7th December 2025]
In a strong display of solidarity and community leadership, the Sri Lanka IT Professionals Association (SLITPA-UAE), together with the Sri Lanka ProfessionalsAssociation (SLPA) and other member associations in the UAE, handed over a Rs. 5 million donation to support Sri Lanka’s national rebuilding efforts following the severe destruction caused by Disaster DITWA.

The donation was officially presented to Hon. Alexi Gunasekara, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, during a formal ceremony held today at the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai.

Speaking at the event, Consul General Hon. Gunasekara expressed deep appreciation for the timely support extended by the Sri Lankan community in the UAE. He highlighted that contributions such as this strengthen the nation’s ongoing recovery efforts and reflect the unity and commitment of Sri Lankans abroad during times of national crisis.

Representatives from SLITPA-UAE, SLPA, and partnered associations emphasized their continued dedication to standing by Sri Lanka, particularly during challenging times. They reaffirmed their intention to collaborate further on initiatives aimed at long-term recovery, resilience-building, and community welfare.

This contribution marks a significant step in mobilizing diaspora support for Sri Lanka’s rehabilitation following DITWA, underscoring the important role of overseas Sri Lankan organizations in national rebuilding and disaster response.

A meeting was held with the SLPA team and Mr. Stan Li, Chief Marketing Officer of CHEC Port City Colombo, together with his delegation. The session was joined by Consul General Mr. Alexi Gunasekara, Ms. Kumudhini, representatives from SLBC, and officers from the Consulate.

The discussion focused on seeking the support of SLPA and SLBC to introduce potential investors from the UAE to the CHEC Port City Colombo project. The meeting was highly informative and provided strong opportunities for networking and future collaboration.

SLPA proposed the establishment of a Steering Committee in the UAE, working jointly with the Sri Lanka team, to strategically drive investor engagement and ensure progress toward project goals.

The Sri Lankan IT Professionals Association in the UAE (SLITPA-UAE) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the year 2025/2026 successfully in a virtual format on 13th May 2025. Despite the challenges posed by busy schedules and geography, the event saw enthusiastic participation and marked a significant milestone in the Association’s continued mission to empower Sri Lankan IT professionals in the UAE.
